Rick Taylor Bluewater, Ontario

CD Release Party   Long regarded as one of Canada’s foremost finger-style guitarists and songwriters, Rick Taylor is making a long-awaited return to his native Ontario, after twenty-three years in Vancouver.  Starting in 1971 with the Mariposa Folk Festival, he soon became a regular at many of Canada’s major festivals and venues and was a stalwart of the early 70’s London folk and roots music scene. Over the years he has worked with Leonard Cohen, Colleen Peterson, Stan Rogers, Willie P Bennett and a host of others. His 2005 CD release of Clown River; a compilation of original solo guitar instrumentals caught the attention of Borealis Records and Rick was invited to be a featured artist on Six Stings North of the Border Volume 3, which includes tracks by Harry Manx, Kevin Breit, Colin Linden and many more. This is Rick’s first club appearance in London since moving back to the area .   In his London Music Club show, Rick will be featuring songs from his 2008 CD, The Wonky Years; an eclectic mix of roots, blues, swing, country, rockabilly and bluegrass. Rick Taylor intoxicates with his high energy live performances, rich baritone voice, delicately haunting, well crafted ballads, command of the blues, and his unforgettable “guitarnastics”.

Bernie Gilmore

Singer-songwriter BERNIE GILMORE returns to the London Music Club for the launch of his second CD “OIL BOOM!”. Bernie will be joined by SHAMAN AYERHART on dobro and mandolin and GERRY FELKER on bass. “OIL BOOM !“ is a collection of songs and music written for the “Celebrate 2008” – a commemoration of 150 years of Canada’s oil heritage.   Bernie’s compositions reflect the joys, struggles and humour connected with oil discovery and oil boom in Enniskillen Township in the 1860’s.  Bernie’s song “BLACK GOLD” with haunting chorus “black gold for miners of oil” describes the passion with which early oilers worked the mucky soil in search of this treasure.  “Bernie Gilmore has a unique voice in Canadian music that should be heard by all. The characters and stories that come alive in his songs reflect our heritage and culture in an entertaining way. With His rich baritone voice and his strong guitar work his shows are not to be missed.” - James Gordon

Stringbone, Lucas Stagg, Allison Brow
String Bone: A dynamic & moving performer mixing folk, country, pop, blues and celtic influences into a unique sound. Rootsy, but contemporary, makes you think like you've heard it before, but can't come up with anything specific. This time with Dan Henshall on upright bass and Mary Ashton on violin. Expect other guests.   Lucas Stagg Bio: Rod Nicholson - Scene Magazine: By turns confessional and narrative, the tunes here are presented in an unadorned performance and production style that throws their lyrical and melodic content into sharp relief.
London's Allison Brown: .....Allison Brown's sweet and powerful singing expresses her enduring character with a striking honesty. Framing melodies with well crafted, subtle guitar accompaniment, her collection of roots classics matched with her own original repertoire links the present to the past and glimpses the future with a unique vision.

Adam Crossley  Toronto  'wsg Jamie Beswick

Meet Adam Crossley, an acclaimed singer, songwriter and producer. With comparisons to Coldplay, Sting and Ryan Adams, Crossley’s melodic voice & thoughtful lyrics are gaining recognition and anticipation is building for the release of his first solo record. In 2005, he began collaborating with producer Asher Lenz, a well accomplished Canadian music, TV and film composer, whose credits include co-writing Andrea Bocelli’s song “Go Where Love Goes”. The duo was enlisted to work with acclaimed recording artist, Josh Groban. Their song, “So She Dances” is featured on Groban’s latest record “Awake” and it was also this song that Groban performed on The Oprah Winfrey Show in November 2006. Additionally, Crossley’s song “Prisoner” attracted the attention of producers at NBC’s Law & Order, who featured the track in the opening teaser of a November 2006 episode of Law & Order.   Reminiscent of artists such as Norah Jones and Nick Drake, Adam Crossley’s new album has an enduring sound that is laid-back and slow burning.

Ron Leary w/ The CFL Sessions & Henry Svec (The Boy From E.T.)

- "exquisite songwriting, which melds rustic sensibilities with coffeehouse poetics and indie rock inspirations." Windsor Star            "Ron Leary has crafted a debut album....that wins on all fronts."Real Detroit Weekly    From the mind and voice behind Peter Mansbridge and the CBCs comes a musical docudrama virtually without precedent. In The Boy from ET’s _Lives the Part_, Henry A. Svec takes on the role of Henry Thomas, the actor who has appeared in such films as ET, Cloak and Dagger, Legends of the Fall, and Gangs of New York. Not widely known is the fact that Henry Thomas is Canadian (from Tillsonburg, Ontario), that Stompin’ Tom is his uncle, that he is a committed Québécois Separatist, that he wrote many of Broken Social Scene’s songs, and that he has co-written poetry with French actor Gerard Depardieu. Listen to Henry tell these and other true stories as he plays the songs that record in detail an impossibly fascinating life.

Ciipher & Paula Perri

Highly touted for their creative sound and unique vocals, Ciipher has the ability to not only captivate people with their musical prowess but leave them coming back for more with their satiable riffs, driving bass and percussion. Musical influences include Tool, Queens of the Stoneage with a little taste of blues. They probably fall under the category "alternative" only because there's really no genre that defines their music.

The McCartney Years

... and many, many more!

more info at:
www.themccartneyyears.net

He was the quiet Beatle, the private Beatle, and perhaps the most adventurous, introspective and enigmatic of the Fab Four who broke onto the world rock 'n' roll stage in the early 1960s. After recovering from lung and throat cancer, after surviving a brutal knife attack by an intruder at his home in England, Harrison finally succumbed to brain cancer on November 29, 2001 at the age of 58.    His credits with The Beatles include the songs, "Taxman", "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something," the latter described by Frank Sinatra as the greatest love song of all time.
Fronted by London rocker Yuri George Jan Pool, an all-star band featuring the finest musicians from London including all the members of the nationally acclaimed production The McCartney Years will perform George Harrison's finest hits in a 3-hour "Concert For George".

Royal Wood Toronto

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!!!  Royal Wood is a Canadian pop music singer-songwriter, based in Toronto, Ontario. His classic pop style has drawn comparisons to Hawksley Workman, Ron Sexsmith, Randy Newman and Rufus Wainwright.

His first full length album “Tall Tales” was something he considered “over the top pop”. However his second release A Good Enough Day is melancholic pop-folk with elegant melodies, accentuated use of strings and guitars, and a sparse use of other instrumentation.

Sarah’s rich vocal ability will lead you to believe that she is well-seasoned beyond her years.    Pat has opened doors, with the help of a few valued friends along the way, that people continue to knock on their whole lives. He's had a few pats on the back from respectable artists along the way, too, including Peter Frampton, Sam Roberts, Matthew Good, The Beach Boys & Bob Rock.

Fri Dec 5, 9pm Front Room  $8  Richard Laviolette Guelph  wsg Jenny Omnichord  of the Barnitzvah Brothers Guelph

HISTORY - hey. i live in guelph, on. i have been for a while i guess, just long enough that i miss it when i'm gone. i live here and i spend time with folks i enjoy spending time with and we get up to things. i release some music on burnt oak and we set up shows and we get up to things. "Jenny Omnichord" is a solo side-project of 23 year-old Jenny Mitchell, vocalist, song-writer and multi-instrumentalist for Guelph, Ontario’s noted young indie band The Barmitzvah Brothers. In fact, it was the purchase of an omnichord in Jenny’s father’s thrift store 8 years ago that set her along this path, its carnivalesque, slightly Hebraic sounds leading two young gentile girls to pick the somewhat ironic "Barmitzvah Brothers" as the name for their band.

He has played on 3 continents and worked with a diverse range of musicians from T-Bone Walker to Christine Newland (LSO). Hasek is still playing, still writing and still recording. He has released three albums of self-penned songs interspersed with blues standards: two in the 70's one in ‘99. He has a new CD recorded ready for release later 2008.
